It’s so true that most of our prayers are all centered on prayer requests for our own selves and our families and friends and loved ones. We also give thanks mostly if the Lord has blessed us with things, like healed us, got our mortgage approved, got the good grades to go to good school, got a pay raise, bonus, etc. It seems that our prayers of thanksgiving is so lopsided. Why?
A large percentage of our thanksgiving seems to be tied rather tightly to our material well-being & comfort. This unvarnished truth is what we most frequently give thanks for betrays what we most highly value. A large percentage of our thanksgiving is for material prosperity, it is because we value material prosperity. (Don Carson)
